If sharing a certain slightly minty aspect with its sibling below, this very solid young wine is slightly less outgoing in fruit, but it is a touch deeper in character and shows a little more varietal range. It leads with suppleness in the mouth but is roughed up in the latter going by moderate tannins, and it shows a slight trim of heat at the finish. Its tougher traits notwithstanding, it is a deep, well-filled and eminently ageworthy working that looks to get better with anywhere from five to ten years of additional cellar time.

I first tasted this wine at the London Wine Trade Fair at the Excel warehouse in London. While certainly a note worthy wine deserving praise, I was not overly impressed. The nose was excessively minty, which amost overshadowed the variaties notes of cassis and black berries. It did have great palate structure and balance with good concentration of fruit on the mid-palate and decent length (although a hot finish -- alcoholic). I tasted it next to the 2000 STD Clos du Val, which I thought was showing better and at half the price tag. All in all a very good wine but it is not worth its monetary weight in my opinion.
