Deep fresh ruby-red. Brooding aromas of currant syrup, licorice, naphtha and tobacco leaf. Fairly intense flavors similar to the aromas. Still quite youthfully tight, but offers solid concentration and very good length. Just a hint of greenness on the end; the firm tannins reach the teeth.

I have been a Silver Oak fan for years, but now (with the loss of their winemanker) I may have to re-align my allegiance. I agress with More10503839. Even the usual over-oaking that can cover many of the minor imperfections is lacking. There are better choices for what seems to be a very good year in Napa

My experience was very different from that of Mr. Tanzer's. The first word that comes to mind is watery. My bottle had limited taste no structure and no finish. At the $65 price I was shocked. I tasted it up against a bottle of 1999 Freemark Abbey which presented a taste that was three times that of the Silver Oak. Perhaps I got a bad bottle...although it didn't taste like bad / spoiled wine, just watery. Did anyone else have the same experience?
