(from vines just yards across the county line) Good medium ruby-red. Sappy aromas of black- and redcurrant, licorice, brown spices and shoe polish. Denser than the cabernet franc bottling, with a higher pitch despite its creamy-sweet berry flavors. Exotic oak adds another layer of flavor to this already enticing but still young cabernet. Foley loves the traditional Radoux barrels, mostly from center-of-France oak and about 20% from Vosges wood.

Very dark ruby in color. Wonderful aromas with plenty of spice, currant and blackberry in flavors. The tannins is silky and smooth. Elegant and complex in after taste. Great Calif. Cab.

I'm not normally a fan of California Cabs but found this wine very impressive, in that "in your face" style that California does best. Should drink well for at least a few years. The wine is soft and voluptuous, almost satiny, fruit is dense and balanced, and the nose is a classical one with noticable vanilla or coffee underlined by hints of tobacco or leather. Impenetrable black right to the rim of the glass; an extremely extracted wine; in the mouth almost thick. Overall a very impressive wine. (I'll drink it soon or offer it to my relatives in Europe: I don't trust the aging of California Cabs, and they always drink anything I bring over the day we show up -- a perfect wine for that use...)

From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.

Varietal Image
Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon built its reputation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Here, in the district of Medoc, the varietal is the key component of blended wines that also may include some Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and even Malbec and Petit Verdot. Moving slightly south, Cabernet Sauvignon meets Merlot in roughly equal proportions in the red wines of Graves. In both of these Bordeaux regions, the top bottles...
