1999 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino
Producer: Castello Banfi
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Sangiovese
Origin: Italy
Region: Tuscany
90(+?) Points | International Wine Cellar , September/October 2004
($66) Impressive saturated ruby, extremely dark for Brunello. Brooding aromas of dark berry syrup and licorice; distinct hints of surmaturite Then big, broad and extremely unevolved; highly concentrated but currently monolithic, and not really displaying its fruit. Finishes with big, chewy but ultimately rather fine tannins. Impressive in a modern style, but is this too solid for its own good?

We were lucky enough to visit the winery in Montalcino in 2001 and purchased several bottles at $25 each! Unfortunately we only brought one home with us and discovered the >$50 price tag here.
A beautiful wine!

Wonderful, fruity and seductive brunello. 90 pts seems low, I would say 93+pts.
Not a 97 but close

WS and Tanzer were correct, although one taster thought is was more earthy than fruity. Definitely nice long finish. We tasted alongside a 1999 Argiano Brunello (at $58) and some liked that better; but it was a tie for most.
