By Connoisseurs' GuideConnoisseurs' Guide to California Wines, May 02 Rated: 87 With combative elements of ripeness, green-apple fruit and very intense oak fighting for attention, this rich, but still somewhat disjunct, medium-full-bodied young Chardonnay has far more presence than polish for now. Its clear impressions of depth and essential extract suggest that it may eventually grow into its oaky frame, but, even if not, the wine is certain to succeed with richer smoked salmon recipes.

By Stephen TanzerStephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 02 Rated: 90 Slightly hazy. Aromas of fresh and baked apple and spicy oak, plus a suggestion of crystallized redcurrant. Dense, fresh and spicy; tactile and young. Flavors of apple and licorice in the middle and citrus skin on the tight back end. Offers sneaky density.
