What a powerhouse wine!!

Last night I had the 2004 vintage and it was one of the most lovely wines I've had in a long time. Voilets and cassis were predominant in the nose and the finish was exceptionally long. Much more fruity than I expected with hints of camphor.
I have paid over $100 for wines that weren't as good.

I had tasted the 2004 while at the winery - shortly after it's release and it was fantastic. I opened this up on 11/20 and received a powerful blast of cassis and loamy earth aromas. I had decanted this and experienced changes over the journey through the wine: hints of grilled herb, menthol on the nose and the palate. I have also recently tasted the 2001 vintage on several occasions and expect that this wine will evolve in a similar way: untighten a little and take on a little more of the earthy and cigar box aromas and palate.

This wine was highly touted as being one of the best wines for the price, and i might agree with that. I think it could have used a little more time in the bottle, because when i drank it i didn't agree with the Wine Spectator rating of 95. Don't get me wrong, this was a good wine, but i felt the coffee on the nose was overpowering of the other aromas. Good wine, but not as good as i was expecting after reading the reviews.
