In the early 18th century, Jean Francois de Pontet, Royal Governor of the Medoc, purchased several vineyards and united them under the banner of Pontet. Today, this Pauillac Chateau is owned by cognac magnate Guy Tesseron. His son Alfred manages the 80 hectare vineyard.

($50-$65) Deep red-ruby. Explosive nose combines raspberry, roasted currant, grilled nuts and exotic spices. Rich, sexy, silky and full in the mouth, with expressive flavors of black raspberry, game, smoke and truffle. Finishes with strong but suave tannins and excellent length. St. Julien

Dinner at the House of Wine

Had this with some friends with a great roast beef dinner, was the 3rd bottle of the night. Great wine can't wait to try the 05 in about 5-7 years.

excellent wine and a memorable experience.

Dark purple. Nose of cedar, spice, tobacco & leather. Tight, concentrated, big and tannic with a long finish. Fruit emerges with air time, showing cherry and cassis with mineral accents. Obviously needs more time but should be great in 5+ years.
