A forgotten varietal
09/15/2008
by vmwrites
Semillon is an underrated varietal, not as widely used here in the US as it should be. Some years ago, it was possible to enjoy semillon as a varietal wine, under the varietal's name. Not a wine to lay away - in my opinion - because semillon and semillon-based wines seem to be best when enjoyed young. Mouton Cadet Bordeaux Blanc is, or should be, one of any winelover's "essentials."

A very nice French white with no aftertaste. Comparable to more expensive Burgundy region whites.

40% Sauv Blanc, 50% Semillon, 10% Muscadelle. Floral bouquet on the nose. The citrus of the Sauvignon Blanc stands out on the tongue. White peach finish.
3.5 Stars: A Better Pic Nic Wine

Served ICE COLD, this French Non-Vintage Semillon is a nice wine for large gatherings and pic-nics, etc. Slightly more expensive than Rene Juno Blanc it offers a crisp citrus palate and a clean finish. Limited recommendation.
