Decent QPR Zin
07/21/2007
by Collins10736288
The designation "Ancient Vines" always fills me with anticipation, so I was a little let down by the "lightness" of the 2005. There is delightful berries and spice in the nose and on the palate. There is jammy "sweetness" as well. It is just not as bold as I had hoped. It is, however, a very nice Zin for the price. I feel the Zin market is rather over-priced right now and this wine represents a bargain that I WILL enjoy again!
Will buy more

As the earlier reviews expressed, this is a very good value. Simply stated, the list for my next trip to TW does include the Cline CC Ancient. That is the ultimate test, is it not?
Jammy and delicious

I've enjoyed the $20-25 CA zins, and their full bodies and long finishes. Their $7-10 siblings are usually disappointing, by comparison, in both respects. This wine was OUTSTANDING in its value ($13). Love the length and jammy fruit. A winner!
Enjoyable

A good starter wine with a full set of flavors ranging from chocolate to aromatic spices that has a long trailing finish. Worked well with a heavily peppered/seasoned cut of beef, though lamb would have been better.
Disappointing 2006

I agree with the ancient vines statement above. But now I take it with a grain of salt. This had a fairly tight nose to start, and it didn't get much better from there, a hint of fruit, but the mid palate was blah and the finish too short.
not bad

You've got to let this one breathe a while. Otherwise full of flavor!

After loving the 2005,the 2006 is dissapointing and the taste is bitter and finished half way through. Been drinking Cline for six years, but searching again.Previously I rated a 4-5 star. Cline, what happened?

About California

It is remarkable that an industry essentially less than a half-century old could capture the attention of the American wine-buying public to the degree that California has. Powerful consumer interest in California wine is driven by two major factors. The more obvious reason is that California's best wines, which come from grapes grown in...

Zinfandel

Zinfandel is not the rage it was in the 1980s and early 1990s, as there are now too many wines made from overripe fruit or from young vines, or overwhelmed by excessive use of new barrels. Today's Zin styles range from elegant, taut, and claret-like midweights to superripe and potty behemoths, with off-the-charts...
