A winner

A really wonderful Chianti -- with or without food.
Wonderfully Rich and Flavorful
by Hocker11249183
After just returning from a wonderful visit and lunch with Carlo and his wife and tasting all the wines he produces (only 5)with great care and discipline on his small family vineyard, I rate this wine a 5 star along with his 2003.

this chianti is simply smoking. one of the very few that can be enjoyed without food. the winery is very small. They produce only 4000 cases a year.
Very good Chianti.

All Chiantis should strive to be this great.
The REAL deal!

Authentic and perfect. The entire Massanera vineyard is only 18 acres in size. I get so many people looking to re-create the wine experience they had in Tuscany...this is the closest thing to being there. Try Massanera's Prelato too - it's like tar and bacon fat in a glass. HUGE and wonderfully decadent!
smooth finish

Very good Chianti...

Classic Chianti nose with subtle black cherry, raspberry, and floral finish,,not a dry or sweet Chianti,,,Works well with pasta...DB..89
casual everyday quaffer

delicious for the price. has some bitter pungency. tried the '07 and it was tight in the glass. maybe will open more with age (?). But is not as over the top as some reviewers are pushing.

Not all it's cracked up to be

Not a bad chianti. I expected it to finish a lot smoother and dryer for the price, especially after reading some of the reviews here. Not a 5 star wine in my opinion.

About Italy

Italy, like France, offers a world of wine styles within a single country: dry Italian white wines ranging from lively and minerally to powerful and full-bodied; cheap and cheerful Italian red wines in both a cooler, northern style and a richer, warmer southern style; structured, powerful reds capable of long aging in bottle; sparkling wines; sweet wines and dessert wines.

Varietal Image

The trademark of wines from Tuscany, and especially those from the region of Chianti, was once the fiasco. This straw-colored flask may carry associations of lengthy rustic meals out on the portico of a villa in the Tuscan countryside, but this romantic reverie must be interrupted with a burst of reality...
