About Kistler Vineyards
Steve Kistler's rich, Burgundy-style Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, from a series of ideally situated vineyards all around Sonoma County, have long been favorites among collectors and restaurant clients. The best bottlings have proven to be excellent mid-term agers and are among the richest and most complex Chardonnays made anywhere—the key is low-tech, hands-off winemaking that makes the most of the particular vineyard site plus what each vintage has to offer.

($70; 20 barrels made, from the "richest section" of Kistler Vineyard) Pale yellow. Bright, subtle aromas of lemon, truffle, flowers, nuts and minerals. Very rich and spicy, with penetrating fruit flavors of peach and nectarine. Large-scaled, tactile and still very young, with a strong underlying structure for aging. Finishes very long, chewy and stony. Along with the superlative 2000 version, also made entirely from Kistler Vineyard, an extremely strong release for this bottling.
