2001 Domaine Jean-Francois Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne

Extremely subtle, pure aromas of apple, nutmeg, citrus peel and minerals. A wine of extraordinary purity and incipient complexity, hinting at citrus fruits and wet stone. The precise, minerally finishing flavors saturate the palate. I underrated this last year - always a danger when tasting young chardonnays that still have a substantial percentage of unconverted malic acidity. Coche noted that he prefers this wine to the 2002 version, possibly owing to the rain that fell in this vineyard in August of 2002.
