About Vieux Chateau Certan
For the past 88 years, Vieux Chateau Certan has been owned by the Thienpont family. Alexander Thienpont, grandson of George, who acquired the estate in 1924, manages today. His hard work in the last 20 years has caused the estate to shine, lifting it from a period of shakiness in the '70s and '80s.
1997 Vieux Chateau Certan Pomerol (in double magnum)
Producer: Vieux Chateau Certan
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Merlot
Origin: France
Region: Bordeaux
Appellation: Pomerol
87-89 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 1998
Excellent red-ruby color. Floral aromas of redcurrant and cedary, smoky oak. Pretty, fruity and harmonious, with moderate depth and fleshiness. Not especially sweet. A second sample from a less-charred barrel nevertheless showed a strong oak component and clean, black cherry-dominated flavors. This vintage should develop fairly quickly.
