About Araujo Estate
Since 1990, Bart and Daphne Araujo have carried on the tradition of making monster Cabernets from the Eisele Vineyard, adding Syrah into the mix as well. Their flagship bottling is dense, powerful and rich, typically with soil-inflected notes of plum, mocha, tobacco and smoke, and very suave tannins.
2000 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard Napa Valley (in magnum) (Pre-Arrival)
Producer: Araujo Estate
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Cabernet Sauvignon
Origin: California
Region: Napa
92 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2003
($150; a blend of 83% cabernet sauvignon, 9% cabernet franc, 5% petit verdot and 3% merlot) Good medium red-ruby. Sappy black raspberry, redcurrant, flowers, tobacco and licorice on the nose, along with sexy, smoky oak notes of torrefaction. Dense and lush, with a restrained sweetness and hints of minerals and chocolate. Not a huge wine but boasts lovely intensity and vinosity. The first vintage of this wine to include some merlot - no doubt at least partly due to the influence of consulting enologist Michel Rolland.
