($24; aged for ten months in second-year barriques) Bright medium ruby. Very sweet aromas of wild crushed currant, cherry, raspberry, saddle leather and chestnut honey. Sweet, lush and deep; round, ripe and very easy to drink, but with lovely acid lift and strong soil tones. Lush, silky, expanding finish. Finishes with very smooth tannins. "I'm not looking for a barbera with huge structure," explains Guido Fantino, "but rather a more traditional, consumer-friendly wine." (Empson U.S.A., Alexandria, VA)
