Good deep medium red. Brooding aromas of red berries, red cherry, minerals and sweet oak. Thick and lush but juicy, with lovely minerality contributing to the impression of grip. Wonderfully pure, sweet red fruit flavors. This, too, builds impressively toward the back and lingers impressively on the aftertaste. The finish features lush, suave tannins that coat the front teeth and incisors. A great 2001 Barolo.

Not as good as everyone says

Every weekend I get together in Los Angeles with a score of Italian businessmen, including an Italian wine distributor. We drink wine and have quite the siesta. I had seen the ratings on this wine and decided to add it to my extensive collection. Last Saturday I decided to pop one. Yes, it is young and we all agree it will need a few years. It started out around an 89, then worked its way up to low to mid 90's. We also uncorked a Frescobaldi and there was no comparing the two. The Fantino won hands down. It has a great finish and is complex, it was just too young.
