2001 Gaja Nebbiolo Sori San Lorenzo Langhe

Unashamedly modern in style and breathtakingly expensive, Angelo Gaja's wines are flamboyant, intense and suave, like their maker. Gaja now labels his former single-vineyard Barbarescos and Barolos simply as Nebbiolo Langhe Rosso (along with the proprietary names known to well-heeled clients around the world), as he wanted to be free to include a small percentage of Barbera in his wines in years with low acidity. Gaja also makes a superb and rare-for-the-region Cabernet Sauvignon called Darmagi, not to mention a rich, multidimensional Chardonnay called Gaia & Rey. Gaja is undeniably the leading light in Piedmont.
