($125) Deep ruby. Reticent but highly nuanced nose hints at black raspberry, cassis, smoke, espresso and minerals. Very complex, rich and sharply focused, with captivating flavors of cassis, bitter chocolate, menthol, tobacco and earth. Rather backward wine, yet suave and seamless; this is balanced from the start but has the structure to develop in bottle for 15 to 20 years. Juicy finish features big, broad tannins and a sweet suggestion of chocolate. Wears its 14.6% alcohol gracefully.

Still a bit tight, but once it opens up with some air it does not disappoint. A strong earthy nose foretells even better things to come. Full bodied, rich dark fruit, cedar, chocolate, and on and on… I found myself holding the wine in my mouth for arguably inappropriate amounts of time due to the range of flavors and wonderful mouth-feel. Chewy tannins mark a lingering 45+ second finish. This is a graceful-ager. Outstanding!

Big, bold and beautiful. I agree with others that the Stags Leap and Oakville little brothers are good and in some years may even be better i.e. 2002, but the 2001 Reserve is Great and stands apart from all but the early '90's versions. Skip the 2002 and zero in on this baby. You can drink it now, but you may have to take a few steps back after you unleash it so it can unwind. Better to lay a few down for a bit of nap and then wake them up for a coming out party in a few years along with your favorite slice of beast. Dissapointment will not be on the menu.

This wine is very nice wine...tannic, fleshy, with smoke and tobacco flavors..Big Bold flavors and a long finish. Wine is excellent now, but will excel to almost perfection with a few years of cellaring..FANTASTIC WINE!! "Cent-anni"
