About Silver Oak Cellars
Prestigious and fashionable, Silver Oak produces only two wines, its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Both are medium-bodied and smooth, with exotic suggestions of bourbon, cocoa butter and chocolate from the American oak barrels in which they are aged for 30 months or longer.
1987 Silver Oak Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (in magnum)
Producer: Silver Oak Cellars
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Cabernet Sauvignon
Origin: California
Region: Napa
86 Points | International Wine Cellar , September/October 2002
(bottle tasted at Silver Oak) Medium-deep red with an amber rim. High-toned aromas of currant, tobacco, cedar, green bean, stewed tomato and scotch. Tart and on the lean side, with modest sweetness and flesh. This still offers good freshness for '87 thanks to brisk acids, yet the flavors are rather green and pinched. Finishes with firm tannins that avoid dryness. I preferred the texture of the Alexander Valley bottling, although I did not taste these two wines side by side.
