2001 Marques de Riscal Rioja Baron de Chirel Reserva

One of the oldest and largest producers in Rioja, established in 1860, Marqués de Riscal offers modernized versions of traditional mid-weight wines that combine sweet fruit, supple texture and firm structure. Riscal has a super-modern new vinification facility and a visitors' center designed by Frank Gehry. The dense, generous Barón de Chirel bottling is entirely fermented in large French oak vats and contains some Cabernet Sauvignon. Riscal also offers a consistently excellent Verdejo bottling from its property in Rueda.
