($24) Bright medium ruby. Blackberry, licorice and roasted herbs on the slightly candied nose. A step up in concentration and richness from the Stonehorse. Creamy dark berry and floral flavors fill the mouth. Kept fresh by ripe acidity. This is a reserve version of the Stonehorse, with its components selected for texture. I like the floral lift that apparently comes from the wine's 2% viognier.

Succulent GSM!

I recently enjoyed the '02 Kaesler Avignon GSM at Emeril's in Orlando. The wine releases a heady, yet inviting bouquet. Its color is deep garnet-red. The GSM has very fat and complex mouthfeel with plenty of chocolate, ripe cherry, and mint. It is surpirsingly good for being so young--I'd love to enjoy a glass in 5-7 years. The Kaesler holds up well with my favorite GSM (Rosemont '98).
