About Chateau de la Maltroye
Old-timers in Chassagne remember times when the wines and vineyards here weren't nearly so coveted. When the Cournut family purchased the estate in 1940, the 6.5 acre plot behind the house was a vegetable garden. Today, the beautiful vines that run 200 meters down the hill behind the Chateau make up the priceless Maltroye 1er Cru holding, offering wines that sell for $70-$100/bottle.

($195) Reticent nose hints at soft citrus scents. The biggest, broadest and richest of these 2003s, with a lovely round texture. Characterized more by its volume than by its cut today, but this huge and very long wine would appear to have a bright future. Finishes with notes of truffle and vanillin oak. This is 13.45% natural alcohol, the highest of these 2004s.
