About Chateau Leoville Las Cases
At Chateau Leoville Las Cases, Manager Jean Hubert Delon's reputation--or better yet, notoriety--precedes him. A formidable man who governs the vines with an iron fist, Delon has struck fear into the heart of many an unassuming wine critic. His intensity has also driven the wines here to the doorstep of the First Growths, a prime reason why Las Cases is the foremost "Super Second."
2003 Chateau Leoville Las Cases Clos du Marquis Saint Julien
Producer: Chateau Leoville Las Cases
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Bordeaux Blend
Origin: France
Region: Bordeaux
Appellation: Saint Julien
90 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2006
($45-$50) Good ruby-red. Roasted plum, currant and leather on the nose. Thick, rich and deep, with uncanny sweetness and mouth coverage for this bottling. Finishes very long, with a suggestion of dried fruits and big tannins that are even sweeter than those of the 2005 (the IPT here is 71, vs. 65 in the '05).
