($55) Good red with a hint of development at the rim. Mellow aromas of sandalwood, mocha, coffee, smoked meat and nutty oak. Fat, round and sweet, with a silky texture but good rather than outstanding depth of flavor. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and good length.

The Big Swish
08/12/2012
by BaroloBoy
First impression left me a little doubtful, but then I remembered to swish. That doesn’t actually come natural to me. So much for first impressions. I was not looking for a mouthful of fruit but I was a little surprised at the subtle character of this wine. Refined. Gentle even. Still swishing, the tannins are soft and mellow. Ok, now I’m getting it. It’s a Margaux thing. The scent of lavender kind of slips in softly. Nice. Very nice. Just a minute … let’s set up the right mood. I need music. Let’s try this again, only this time with Edith Piaf: Dried rose petals, wet wood, maybe cedar, and a slight hint of pecans.
