More About This Wine
About Chateau Ausone
Once owned by the Roman poet and vintner, Ausonius, this St. Emilion First Growth is now managed by Alain Vauthier. Along with the limestone hillside where the old vines reside, Vauthier is largely responsible for Ausone's success. He acquired the estate after years of inter-family legal battles and has poured his heart and soul into the property.

89-92 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2004
Deep ruby-red. Highly aromatic nose combines cassis, blackberry, minerals, violet and licorice. Sweet, chewy and generous, with excellent depth of flavor framed by ripe acids. Notes of bitter chocolate, violet and licorice. The wine's very firm acids combine with its big, toothdusting tannins to give the finish a youthful toughness. But this should be a terrific second wine.
