Hard-charging ripeness is met by deep, superbly defined fruit at every step of the way here, but, while never the wine is never subtle or soft-spoken, neither does it go spinning off out of control at any point. It is fleshy in feel, very full-bodied and underlain by a bit of palpable heat, but its hold on varietal cherries is tenacious. It is an utterly compelling wine as Pinot Noirs go, and it requires mealtime matching with dishes of equal richness such as a standing prime rib or a crown roast of lamb with wild rice.
Full red-ruby. Wild, meaty aromas of black fruits, minerals, espresso and mint. The sweetest of these 2003 pinots, with creamy-richflavors of black fruits, earth, sassafras and minerals. Not hugely sappy but impressively concentrated. A very ripe style of pinot, with flavors just this side of roasted. Long, slow-mounting finish features very broad, fine tannins.
