($35) Good deep red. Superripe aromas of black raspberry, dried strawberry, licorice, smoke, tar and game. Sweet and sappy, with almost grapey flavors of cherry, raspberry and leather framed by brisk natural acidity. Juicy, vinous finish features very fine, dusty tannins. A distinctly idiosyncratic wine from vines planted in the late 1970s.

About Napa Valley

Napa Valley is the most famous wine-growing area in the U.S. It begins at the base of Mount St. Helena in the north and tapers off some 30 miles to the south into the floodplain where the Napa River enters San Francisco Bay.
