Sweet, dense and lush on the palate, but with sappy, nicely delineated flavors of cassis, chocolate, tar and pepper. This has superb fruit concentration, especially for a wine in this price range. Finishes with sweet tannins and excellent length. I like this style. In this cool vintage, Kaesler harvested its cabernet sauvignon toward the end of April, the latest ever for these vines. (By the way, the 2001 version is also quite impressive: stuffed with fruits and minerals, although showing a bit more dried fruit character than the 2002.)
