($24) The ostensibly simpler of two Umathum chardonnays and largely rendered in tank, this displays a natural smokiness; flavors of apple, fennel and kumquat; a polished, creamy palate with a fine exchange of fruit and lees; and more than merely satisfying length. I found none of Umathum's other recent whites nearly so interesting. 1 star.
