About Maison Chapoutier

Maison Chapoutier, the first négociant and producer to mark their bottlings with braille, was established in 1879 by Polydor Chapoutier. The business has remained family owned since then and is now run by Michel Chapoutier. His hands off approach to winemaking has lead to a resurgence in quality at Maison Chapoutier, which now produces some of the finest wines in the Rhone region of France.

93 Points | International Wine Cellar , January/February 2006

(from 100% grenache vines up to 80 years of age) Dark red color. Explosive, assertive nose combines bitter cherry, licorice, wild herbs, white pepper and sweet tobacco. Extremely rich and thick on the palate, with outstanding depth of red fruit flavor and a persistent, sappy sweetness on the very long finish.

A Hedonistic Delight
05/06/2006

A beautiful garnet, this wine drinks exceptionally well considering its youth. It is a delicious mouthful of red and black fruit with a backbone of tannins, balanced and vibrant, making it all but impossible for any but the strongest-willed to keep the bottle cellared. Worth searching out and drinking today, the patient will enjoy the Barbe Rac for the next decade.

About Chateauneuf du Pape

The Rhone's Chateauneuf du Pape has been one of the hottest categories of the new millennium in the American market, thanks in equal part to the nearly candied ripeness and full-bodied, chewy texture of these wines and to an unprecedented string of four consecutive very good to outstanding vintages between 1998 and 2001.
