95-97 Points | International Wine Cellar , January/February 2006

Deep, dark red. Multidimensional bouquet of kirsch, cassis, red plum, pipe tobacco, grilled meat, licorice pastille and roasted coffee; this has nearly all of the Chateauneuf food groups. Utterly mouthfilling in its richness, with tremendous concentration of red and dark berries, garrigue, bittersweet chocolate and aged beef. Finishes with a velvety lushness, round tannins and palate-staining persistence. A simply remarkable wine: it finished at 16.2% but the alcohol only shows in the wine's unctuous, almost oily palate feel.

Unreal Juice!
10/08/2006
by DeSalvo11392539
8/15/06 -- Had a bottle for dinner in Provence that we brought at Pegau. Medium-deep ruby color. The nose is deeper and blacker than the 1998 Cuvee Laurence that we had just preceding this. Blackberries, black cherries, plums, forest floor, raw meat, violet flowers and roses. On the palate there is loads of massive, sweet, ripe black fruit, palate staining, dusty tannins and a minute+ long finish. This is flat out extraordinary juice!

About Chateauneuf du Pape

The Rhone's Chateauneuf du Pape has been one of the hottest categories of the new millennium in the American market, thanks in equal part to the nearly candied ripeness and full-bodied, chewy texture of these wines and to an unprecedented string of four consecutive very good to outstanding vintages between 1998 and 2001.
