88(+?) Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - May/June 2005

($110) Good full ruby. Brooding, medicinal aromas of cassis and mint. Primary and grapey but round, with cassis and licorice flavors along with a light weediness. Fairly dense, even chunky, but could use a bit more sweetness and pliancy. I suspect this rather old-style cabernet will reward cellaring.

A nice heavy start, complex mints and chocolates, but then the finish leaps out at you, full of cloves, tobacco, musty and spicy. it is bold. This is excellent, but a bit of a challenge to drink given its complexity.
