Great Value from St. Estephe

This Chateau has had a less than stellar reputation over the years but they have really come back with the past couple of vintages. A great, balanced nose of chocolate and red fruit. The palate is balanced and complex and features the classic, bold St. Estephe terrior. Ready to drink now, but will improve over the next 4-5 years at least. Look for the profile of this chateau to rise soon. 90 points.

I had the 2004. Dont drink this yet. Its a little too tight right now, pretty tannic but nice and acidic. In a few years itll kick-ass. In about 2012 or after, keep it simple. Throw a New York, filet mignon, ribeye or T-bone on the grill, bake or fry some potatoes, sauté some spinach, maybe Italian style in olive oil with garlic, pine nuts and raisins, and you wont know what hit you, what Bordeaux is all about mes ames.

We looked forward to opening this up on a special occasion because we normally stick with the more affordable Bordeaux superieurs. It definitely was better, bolder, and smoother than our usual plonk but we expected more. I agree that with other reviews that suggest it's still too tight. I would actually have given it 3.5 stars but I had to choose either 3 or 4.
