About Au Bon Climat
Since it was founded in 1982, Au Bon Climat has been a well respected producer of Burgundian-styled California wines. Jim Clendenen's Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs are mineral, focused and restrained in the early going, and sometimes quite oaky.
2004 Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir La Bauge Au-Dessus Santa Maria Valley (half bottle)
Producer: Au Bon Climat
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Pinot Noir
Origin: California
Region: Central Coast
Appellation: Santa Barbara
90 Points | International Wine Cellar , January/February 2006
($30) Good bright, full red. Reticent aromas of black cherry, licorice, underbrush, fresh herbs and rose petal; opened nicely with air. Began slightly reduced, with dry-edged cherry and bitter chocolate flavors, but grew sweeter and more pliant with aeration. A nicely structured pinot that stays light on its feet. This builds nicely on the back half, and turned creamier with extended aeration.
