About Alban Vineyards
John Alban makes some of the most aromatically complex and explosively rich wines in the New World from traditional Rhone varieties. Since 1989 he’s worked entirely with fruit from his own superb clonal material, planted on chalk-rich hillside vineyards in Edna Valley.
2004 Alban Vineyards Grenache Edna Valley Estate Vineyard
Producer: Alban Vineyards
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Grenache
Origin: California
Region: Central Coast
93 Points | International Wine Cellar , September/October 2006
($74) Deep medium ruby. Exotic nose combines dark cherry, truffle, printer's ink, toffee and mocha. Fleshy, sweet and superconcentrated, with a distinctly carnal quality to the flavors of raspberry, truffle and licorice. Impressively lush and broad on the back, finishing with suave tannins and terrific persistence. A very complete and deep California grenache.
