($25) Inky violet-ruby. Extremely ripe, almost porty aromas of dark cherry, creme de cassis, peaty earth and cracked pepper, plus a suggestion of charred meat. Surprisingly lively and fresh in the mouth, with bright cherry and blackcurrant flavors accented by tobacco and pepper. Rich and ripe, to be sure, but also poised and elegant. Finishes with supple, velvety tannins.
