($120) Good bright, deep ruby. Superripe aromas of blackberry, minerals, mocha, licorice, musky chocolate and sexy oak. Then almost porty on the palate but with surprisingly penetrating and layered flavors of blackberry, cassis and dark chocolate and a high-toned character that lifts the fruit. I wanted more subtlety and floral character, but this is very young and in need of bottle aging. And there's no arguing with the extraordinary layered density of this superripe malbec. The tannic finish, with its complex notes of chocolate, leather and herbs, shows superb lift.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon built its reputation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Moving slightly south, Cabernet Sauvignon meets Merlot in roughly equal proportions in the red wines of Graves. In both of these Bordeaux regions, the top bottles...
