92 Points | International Wine Cellar , November/December 2005

($88) Vivid medium pink color Raspberry, strawberry preserves and a subtle blood orange quality on the nose, along with fresh bay and earthy sassafras. A medium-bodied rose with nicely concentrated red berry, cherry and Asian spice flavors. Finishes silky and long, with the raspberry tone joined by a note of sweet cocoa. Really suave, sexy and lush Champagne, showing both power and balance.

Excellent Rose

I tasted this wine with Christian Pol-Roger in Epernay shortly before his retirement. This was a wonderful Rose offering. M. Pol-Roger said Rose should not be over the top, but have "frivolity." I don't know what frivolity tastes likes, but I was certainly happy. Champagne lovers should not miss the 1996 Pol Roger Cuvee Winston Churchill, which is the best vintage I've tasted going back to 1985.

In fact, these grapes are widely referred to as "international" varieties because they have been planted and imitated all over the world.
