NV G.H. Mumm Brut Grand Cru

Bottled 6/2002. Disgorged 2/2005. Even though it bears no vintage date, one would assume that this wine is essentially from the 2001 vintage, and, it is clear from the data on the label that it lay en triage for less than three years. Yet, a large part of this wine's charm is its rich, yeasty overlays to less well-developed flavors that drift into slight bitterness as they finish.

Light gold. Fresh, spicy open-knit aromas of pear, quince and floral honey, with a hint of dusty minerals. Bright citrus and apple flavors are gently accented by nutmeg and white pepper, and perked up by a hint of candied orange peel. A chewy Champagne that finishes with notes of buttered toast and smoke.
