($70) Medium red with an amber edge. Strong oak spice aromas over dried cherry, tobacco, saddle leather, underbrush and licorice root. Supple and elegant in texture, with mature fruit flavors and a slightly wild, meaty character. Quite sweet on the finish, with strong oak spice character, like a traditional Rioja. A classic, old-school Iberian wine that might shock modern palates. (Broadbent Selections, San Francisco, CA)
