About Chateau Ausone
Once owned by the Roman poet and vintner, Ausonius, this St. Emilion First Growth is now managed by Alain Vauthier. Along with the limestone hillside where the old vines reside, Vauthier is largely responsible for Ausone's success. He acquired the estate after years of inter-family legal battles and has poured his heart and soul into the property.
2005 Chateau Ausone La Chapelle d'Ausone Saint Emilion
Producer: Chateau Ausone
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Bordeaux Blend
Origin: France
Region: Bordeaux
Appellation: Saint Emilion
92 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2008
Good deep red. Musky redcurrant, coffee and game on the nose, complicated by smoky oak and minerals. Supple on entry, then a bit closed in the middle palate, offering hints of graphite and flowers. Finishes broad, sweet and aromatic, with uncanny persistence for a second wine. (Vauthier declined to show his 2006s, which were being fined.)
