More About This Wine
About Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste
Despite being classified in 1855 as a Fifth growth, Grand Puy Lacoste consistently outperforms its rank, due largely to the Cabernet which provides a solid structure to the wine. Francois Xavier Borie, who inherited the estate from his father, currently oversees the production of 12,000 cases annually.
2005 Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste Pauillac
Producer: Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Bordeaux Blend
Origin: France
Region: Bordeaux
Appellation: Pauillac
93 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2008
($95-$100) Medium red. Very ripe aromas of plum and musky brown spices; redder in character and less precise than the 2006. Then big, sweet and plump on the palate, with full, mellow flavors of red berries, tobacco and mocha, plus a light smoked meat note. Finishes with sweet tannins and lingering, fully ripe fruit. This is showing its lush side today and is hiding its underlying structure.
