2005 Chateau Haut Brion Pessac-Leognan

Chateau Haut-Brion may be the most famous chateau of Graves and one of the great names in French wine history, but it's not resting on its laurels. Located within the city limits of Bordeaux, this estate has arguably been producing the most consistently outstanding Bordeaux red over the past 20 years. Among the first growths this is the most soil-inflected wine, showing almost roasted berry and plum fruit complicated by notes of tobacco, hot stones and minerals. While rarely hard in its youth, the wine ages at a glacial pace. Château Haut-Brion also produces the ultimate white Graves.
