About Viader Vineyards & Winery

Since she released her first vintage in 1989, Delia Viader's flagship Proprietary blend has been an elegant, juicy, harmonious midweight whose sizable Cabernet Franc component contributes blackberry and licorice elements and a pronounced violet character to the core of Cabernet Sauvignon. According to Viader, her success comes from the terroir—a sunny spot at the foot of Howell Mountain—but we know it helps to have a bright mind calling the shots too.

($40) Moderately saturated medium red. Spicy, scented nose combines licorice, woodsmoke and herbs. Soft, aromatic and sexy, with a distinctly rocky minerality giving shape and lift to the spicy berry flavors and leavening the wine's hints of superripeness. Finishes with very good grip and fine-grained tannins for the vintage, with lovely lingering perfume.

Viader has turned me into a cab. franc lover! This wine is silky and smooth. Great plum flavors, nice finish, good oak influence. Try it, you'll like it!

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the three principal varieties in Bordeaux, as well as being the dominant variety in the fine wines of the western Loire Valley. In Bordeaux's Left Bank, Cabernet Franc serves as a blending component adding aromatic complexity to the more muscular Cabernet Sauvignon. On the Right Bank, the grape is found in the clay soils of St. Emilion, where it...
