About Chateau de la Maltroye
Old-timers in Chassagne remember times when the wines and vineyards here weren't nearly so coveted. When the Cournut family purchased the estate in 1940, the 6.5 acre plot behind the house was a vegetable garden. Today, the beautiful vines that run 200 meters down the hill behind the Chateau make up the priceless Maltroye 1er Cru holding, offering wines that sell for $70-$100/bottle.

Style: White Wine
Grape Type: Chardonnay
Origin: France
Region: Burgundy
Appellation: Cote de Beaune
90-93 Points | International Wine Cellar , July/August 2006
Pineapple and vanilla on the nose. Fat, peachy and sweet, but with lovely ripe acids and spice character giving shape to this youthfully aggressive wine. Very young and hardened by gas (this was also sulfited just two weeks ago, whereas the Dents de Chien and Romanee were dosed a month before that). Powerful but not yet as tasty as the Dents de Chien.
