($34) Good full red. Redcurrant, tobacco and nutty oak on the nose. Juicy, spicy and concentrated, in a very brisk style, with sound acidity giving cut to the flavors of redcurrant, dried rose, tar and leather. Finishes with lovely palate-cleansing freshness. This was bottled in May of this year, whereas the 2004 crus won't be bottled until the spring of 2008.

not easy, but very good

This is a medium bodied Barbaresco, but rich in complexity and flavors. I opened the bottle an hour before we got to the BYO restaurant. We tested it at that point and it still needed more air, so we asked our server to decant it, and we left it until our main course. It still could have used a bit more time, but it was very pretty at this point. Flavors of currant and spice, with leathery tannins. It paired beautifully with my lamb, as the fat in the lamb really helped open the wine even more. Others at the table didn't enjoy it as much at first. But as soon as I shared a few bites of lamb with them, they could see what I saw in the wine. Very good stuff, I think it would have even been better a few more years down the road.

Subtle aromas. After brief decanting (20-30 minutes), amazing balance between tannins and spiciness with a hint of its cherry fruit flavors. A complex wine, but thoroughly enjoyable. Definitely would recommend.
decent for price

About Italy

Italy, like France, offers a world of wine styles within a single country: dry Italian white wines ranging from lively and minerally to powerful and full-bodied; cheap and cheerful Italian red wines in both a cooler, northern style and a richer, warmer southern style; structured, powerful reds capable of long aging in bottle; sparkling wines; sweet wines and dessert wines.

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo based wines made outside the Langhe hills are often lost in the commotion over Barolo and Barbaresco. The provinces of Vercelli and Novarra in the northern reaches of the Piedmont area are home to wines like Carema, Ghemme, and Gattinara. The latter two wines are mostly Nebbiolo, which as traditionally been blended with...
