90 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - September/October 2007

($20; for 500 ml.) Saturated ruby. Smoky dark berry liqueur aromas are deepened by a raisiny quality. Medium-bodied and quite sweet, but the oily, ripe blackberry and bitter cherry flavors are firmed by gentle acidity. Finishes with a bite of rooty licorice and excellent cling. Offers much more focus than one expects from a fortified wine, and more flexible at the table for it. (Eric Solomon Selections, Charlotte, NC)
