2005 Delas Freres Saint Joseph Sainte-Epine
About Delas Freres
This old northern Rhône merchant firm has been thoroughly resuscitated in recent years under the strong leadership of Jacques Grange, who had already helped resuscitate Chapoutier before he came aboard in 1997. Ample changes were made both in the vineyard and in the cellar, including an end to filitration and fining of the top cuvees. Special vineyard-designated wines are best here, but there are distinctive and interesting wines throughout the line-up of red wines. The northern Rhône offerings are generally superior to their negociant efforts from the southern part of the valley.

Ruby-red. Spicy, mineral-driven red fruit aromas are complicated by tobacco, violet and graphite notes. Peppery, zesty redcurrant and raspberry flavors show good depth and impressive precision. This highly promising wine has a nervy, graphite-driven finish.
