($48) Bright medium red. Musky aromas of raspberry, bacon fat and smoked meat; this couldn't be anything but syrah. Ripe and broad but not overly sweet, with flavors of smoked meat and pepper. Finishes persistent and smoky. In a classically dry French style but could use a bit more verve.
