About Havens Wine Cellars
Prior to selling his winery, Michael Havens made Merlot in a distinctly Bordeaux style, with a restrained sweetness and notes of lead pencil, minerals, game and tobacco leaf. He was also a pioneer of California Syrah in a distinctly northern Rhône style, typically showing notes of dark fruits, black pepper and gunflint.
2005 Havens Wine Cellars Syrah Napa Valley
Producer: Havens Wine Cellars
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Syrah/Shiraz
Origin: California
Region: Napa
88-90 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2007
Full ruby-red. Wild, meaty aromas of black fruits, mocha, bacon fat, leather and game. Conveys a stronger impression of acidity than the Bourriquot that preceded it, despite having a considerably higher pH (3.87, vs. 3.72). With a bit less flesh, this comes across as a bit youthfully spiky, and finishes with a slightly dry tannic edge.
